Department at a Glance

The library plays an important role in the life of the school, and is well-used by all departments. Pupils visit the library to borrow and return fiction books as part of the English department's Private Reading scheme. Many subjects use the non-fiction books and computers for researching and typing up projects. All pupils are given Information Skills instruction, helping them to research using books and the internet.

Librarian: Mr J Wason
Facilities: A wide-range of literature, 20 networked computers, 2 laser printers, ceiling- mounted projector and SmartBoard, well-stocked Careers Library.
Library Days:

As well as the day-to-day support for classes, the library also hosts events to mark special occasions such as World Book Day. Other programmes designed to engage pupils' interest in books and reading have included Book Brother, where pupils vote to keep their favourite author in the Book Brother house, and Book Week, five days of book-related activities across the whole school.

The Librarian works closely with the English department and Support for Learning to identify and support pupils who find it more difficult to read and access information. First Year pupils may be teamed up with a Sixth Year for Paired Reading - ten minutes of quiet reading every day.

The library also incorporates a well-stocked Careers Library, where pupils may research career options and courses of further study. Twice each week, a Careers Advisor is in school to interview pupils and offer guidance.
